I wish I had found this item a few years ago. Before this I free hand chopped small slits for my Chargriller 50/50 fire box for smoking! I put my hand at risk for getting chopped, when holding the wood for chopping smaller splits! With this wood slpiter, the blade is stationary and you strike the wood that is placed on the blade with a mallet! I use a 4lb mallet with my wood splitter!

product was just as expected: size great to put split logs into, easily split into kindling with a medium sized metal mallet. Worked well, placed on our stone hearth. Does come with screws to secure to a log round if you don't have a proper base or you want it higher than floor level. Purchased for my parents. I will buy another for myself. Safer than using a hatchet for kids or older folks.

Very nice for what it is. this one seems to be identical to the ones costing twice as much. Just keep in mind it's a kindling splitter not a log splitter you can make a lot of kindling in a short time. Splits well enough that you have to be careful careful not to hit the wood too hard as to go right through and hit the edge of the splitter with your hammer as I did a couple of times until I got used to it. So so much better and safer than splitting by using a hatchet

I built a new smokeless fire pit from Haxman on Youtube. It worked so well, I called a local company and had delivered a face court of firewood . The wood was pretty dense and did not burn as well as I wanted. I bought this log splitter and could not be happier. I have a 2.5 pound hammer and I put a log on top, give it a couple of taps to get it set and then haul off and wail on it two or three times and it splits perfectly. Now I have all this dense wood that is split into much smaller pieces that will burn faster. So incredibly happy.

I mounted mine with the included screw to a stump and got to work. I mostly split oak to create kindling using a 3.5lb hammer. It works great, although oak is really hard, and the grain structure is unpredictable. The occasional piece of oak is too tough and I have to move on to the next piece. I imaging if you were splitting a softer wood this would be a dream to use.I like the side railing, it keeps the wood upright while hitting it and keeps the split pieces from flying everywhere once you bust through. The build quality is great, no complaints.

I have a log splitter for splitting the rounds into firewood. But when I run out of kindling and my log splitter isn't readily available this is a great tool for quickly making thin kindling out of firewood with straight grain and no knots. Just a whack or two and I have split off a nice thin piece. Getting a fire going takes less time with some good kindling and I heat with a wood stove. I highly recommend this. I researched these and this one was heavier and beefier than the others. I think that is important when you are swinging a two pound hammer in its direction.

The first time I saw one of these I laughed and thought it was unnecessary since I have a hatchet and know how to use it. We rented a cabin that had one had one and after using it once, I looked at many other brands because I am cheap. After much research and looking at many reviews, I purchased this one.Totally happy with it. Works great and saves time and fingers. Built very well. Sturdy and strong yet not too big and cumbersome. Keep in mind this is for making kindling NOT for splitting logs.I am sure I will have some inquiries from others at the campground and I will gladly recommend this one.GREAT PRODUCT!!!

I bought this kindling splitter on the advice of a friend who cut off part of his thumb while chopping firewood. He switched to one of these after his accident to avoid further mangling of his hands!I am so pleased with this device. It didn't take long to get the hang of using it to chop firewood into smaller pieces and some into small kindling.I researched the various brands and styles of this type of kindling maker before deciding on this one. I chose it because the opening is a bit larger than others, accommodating bigger pieces of wood. I'm really glad I did. A smaller one would be less useful. This kindling maker is so much safer, efficient and easy to use. Definitely recommend.

The day I got this in the mail, I went out and split some smaller logs that I'd set off to the side for our fire pit. I'm a 55-yo woman and have never done much wood splitting. I thought this worked great. With just a hammer, this is easier (and safer) than splitting kindling with a small axe. Great purchase.
