I take out the strainer, boil the water, then when it turns off, I put it back in. This prevents residue from sticking to the kettle.

You may be a bit angular but this is not the same as pulling a tooth. I was able to fill it with water from the hotel bathroom sink and make cups of ramen for meals. And freshly brewed hot tea before going to bed at night. The only small issue I had with it was the tea filter. Unless you drop it in just right, it will slide in at an angle that you then have to adjust (which is hard when the water is just boiling inside it). Luckily I have small hands to get my hands inside it to clean.
