I'm not sure about spills, haven't spilled anything since I got it. It is lightweight but sturdy. Goes underneath hard to reach places such as appliances and furniture. It picks up dust, fir, sand, crumbs, you name it. Then just sweep into dustpan like you would any broom. Only difference is that this is better than a broom in my opinion. I absolutely love it!
