If you have a quick job and are really just going to use it for that one quick job, its hard to see oneself investing in a pvc cutting tool, especially when you need the right size. This old standby has always been a quick, cheap, and easy way to cut pvc pipe. It takes seconds to do and can be done easily. Here's the deal. Its not easy to cut with this tool either straight or with precision. I tend to think of this as more of a rough cut tool where you have some flexibility in the length you're trying to span.Would I buy this again? Absolutely, I have in a lifetime bought this same type of tool 3 times. And I'll probably buy it again, but because I've only needed it in a pinch. An actual pvc cutting tool however will cut clean, quick, and ON your measurement line in a straight line, IF you invest in the tool.

This product did exactly what I needed it to do, cut PVC in a very confined space. Yes, it's essentially a steel cable (like a bike brake cable) and it works very well if you know what to expect. You need to start the cut with a traditional blade, but once the cable is in the cut, it cuts well. For me, the 5 dollars was well with it, even if it was a single use item. I completed my small job, and the cable is still in brand new condition. I'll keep this tucked away in my tool box if ever I need it again.

i used this to remove ceramic soap dishes and ceramic toothbrush holders in our bathrooms. They worked great! I was able to remove them in less than 5 minute per piece. Cleaned up and put in a new tile to make more room on the counter. Highly recommend it!

I had breaks on my 1" thin and brittle aged irrigation line at my new house. I first tried typical cutters then they BROKE the PVC no matter what I tried. So I bought this thing and it literally sas through the PVC with no effort in seconds. It requires very little space vs clippers, especially when you are having to reach 2' into the ground. These things are extreme time savers!!!

I used to cut a pvc pipe under the sink in a confined space to install a new air admittance valve . It took less than 30 seconds to cut. It cut it straight and clean. I did not rank "sturdiness" yet until I use a couple of more time.

Needed something to cut threaded plastic pipe for toilet fill valve repair in tight quarters. Since space would not accommodate a hacksaw, I thought I would try this inexpensive tool. It was perfect for the job, which took less than five minutes. Very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend!

I'm not the handyman. Once I realised that one needs to saw a groove into the PVC with a hacksaw for the cable saw to sit, works well, seems sturdy.

I recently bought an office chair that had very aggressive lumbar support. Due to the design, I was unable to remove it and it was too tight for a saw. The lumbar support holder was 2 inches of thick hard plastic. It was able to get through about 1/2 an inch of it then the cable broke. I grabbed a glove and held the shredded side and went at it again. It broke again about at the 1-inch mark. I repeated these steps with the other half and got to 3/2 of an inch and by then I could just rip it off with my hand. I didn't want to upload any pictures as to miss lead people into thinking it's junk and broke.

I was skeptical after reading reviews and looking at it after arrival. However I followed directions and WOW! It breezed through a 2 inch PVC pipe with ease. It cut clean and if you keep each hand in a line very straight.
